How a Limited Company Works

When you set up a limited company, you become the sole Director and employee, and usually the sole company shareholder. A limited company is its own entity, and through it you can take your income via a combination of salary and dividends. This allows you to have a higher take home pay of up to 80% of your gross income when you are outside of IR35 legislation.

Being a contractor with a limited company gives you the freedom to manage your own finances, minimise your tax burden and truly be your own boss.

In addition to the professionalism and autonomy that comes with a limited company, you can also claim certain expenses to reduce your tax bill.

You can also register for VAT or the VAT Flat Rate Scheme, depending on your situation, to potentially receive a further cash benefit for your limited company.
