The top engineering events in 2016

The engineering sector provides a wealth of opportunities every year for engineers looking to start a contracting career. Despite turmoil in the oil and gas industries, investment opportunities in UK infrastructure and other areas of engineering will allow many engineering contractors to develop their professional skills and experience in 2016.


It is more important than ever to remain current with industry news and trends, and so we bring you a list of five of the top events and conferences this year that are sure to intrigue and educate contractors in the engineering sector.

1. MACH 2016
11 – 15 April; NEC Birmingham, UK

Organised by the Manufacturing Technologies Association, this exhibition has been described as an “outstanding showcase” for “the best innovations and latest developments” in the manufacturing industry. Whether your interest or speciality is in aerospace, automotive, rail or space, you will have the chance to examine over 6,500 tonnes of machinery representing the latest ground breaking technology.

The five-day event is free, and is only a short car drive or train journey away. Do not let this opportunity to soak up knowledge pass you by.

2. IIE Annual Conference & Expo
21 – 24 May; Anaheim, USA

The Institute of Industrial Engineers is holding its annual event and conference this year at the home of Disneyland in sunny California. The event gives industry leaders, up-and-comers and students the opportunity to “network, gather new ideas and learn about innovative tools and techniques” in the field of industrial engineering.

If you want to combine education with a holiday, this event is the perfect combination. Attend the conference, visit the beach, and stay up to date with the latest in industrial engineering.

3. Design and Production Engineering
25 – 26 July; Berlin, DE

Travel to one of the biggest engineering hubs in the world this July to learn from industry experts, scientists and researchers about innovation and change in the world of Design and Production Engineering.

Whether you are a contractor in the design, mechanical, industrial, aerospace or materials sector, this conference is sure to be educational and inspiring. Attending will also give you the chance to explore the world’s most prestigious engineering centre that is the metropolitan city of Berlin.

4. Engineering Design Show
19 – 20 October; Coventry, UK

The Engineering Design Show offers a conference, free practical workshops and an exhibition to help educate engineers on new technology and innovations from the industry’s top suppliers. Rather than cater to one specific element of engineering, the Engineering Design Show strives to provide subject matter for various general sectors such as aerospace, automotive, motorsport, electronics and more.

This event is not just a conference; attendees have the opportunity to see first-hand the freshest innovations to break ground at the exhibition, while learning new skills at the practical workshops. Attendance at this event is free.

5. Advanced Engineering
2 – 3 November; Birmingham, UK

Self-proclaimed as “the UK’s largest dedicated advanced engineering event”, this exhibition highlights the latest in advanced engineering technology and hosts a large open conference where attendees can learn from industry experts. Engineers and engineering enthusiasts will also have the opportunity to see, touch and experience some of the most cutting-edge innovations and advances in engineering technology, as there will be over 700 exhibitors at the event.

Held at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham, visitors to the Advanced Engineering show will also be able to participate in the Aero Engineering, Composites Engineering, Automotive Engineering and Performance Metals shows.
